A wildfire has been sparked north of Lake Okanagan Resort off Westside Road.

The blaze, in the Cinnabar Creek area 16 kilometres north of Kelowna, is 1.5 hectares and showing rank two and three behaviour.

"Structures are not currently threatened by the wildfire," said Max Birkner, Kamloops Fire Centre fire informations officer.

Wilson's Landing Fire Department requested the assistance of B.C. Wildfire, which has responded with seven firefighters, a bird dog aircraft, four tankers and three skimmers.

An evacuation alert has been issued for Camp Owaissi, Lake Okanagan Resort and Camp Mewata as a result of the Cinnabar Creek wildfire.

"These residents should be prepared to leave their homes on short notice should conditions require an evacuation order," states the Regional District of Central Okanagan.

"People are requested to stay away from the immediate area and RCMP are doing traffic control."

Boaters are asked to stay out of the area of Okanagan Lake near the fire to allow aerial crews and equipment to collect water for the blaze.
