Crews fixing Vernon water main break

Sizeable pipe breaks downtown in front of Vernon Public Art Gallery

Crews are in the process of repair a significant water line break in downtown Vernon.

A sizeable pipe broke in front of the Vernon Public Art Gallery shortly before 1 a.m.

“It resulted in a fair amount of water coming out,” said Zee Marcolin, Greater Vernon Water manager. “Crews responded as quick as they could so it wasn’t running too long. They isolated the break and are now repairing it.”

As of 9 a.m., southbound traffic on 32nd Street (Highway 97), the outside lane, was closed and there was one block downtown where businesses were without water.

While most other people would not be without water, Marcolin said there was low pressure in the system which stirs up the pipes and customers could experience dirty water.

“If that happens, they are to run their cold water tap until it clears up and it should clear up quickly,” said Marcolin.
