The role of arts and culture in the community is being added to the election agenda.

The Vernon Public Art Gallery is hosting a forum for the mayoralty candidates in Vernon and Coldstream Nov. 10 at 6 p.m.

“This is the perfect time and place to speak to our candidates on the issues relevant to culture,” said Dauna Kennedy Grant, gallery executive director.

“There is a real need for growth and development in the arts and culture sector in the North Okanagan, and it is here that we can openly discuss what really matters to our membership and their families.”

The forum will be held in conjunction with an opening reception for the annual members’ exhibition.

The reception begins at 5 p.m., with food and refreshments. Admission is free and the event is open to the public.

“All council and mayoral candidates are invited to attend the opening reception, as an opportunity to speak directly to the membership, gallery supporters and the general public, on issues related to the future of arts and culture in Vernon,” said Kennedy Grant.
