Distracted drivers targeted

Four officers spent about four hours conducting road checks.

Even after a fair warning from the RCMP that officers would target distracted drivers Feb. 14, 20 tickets were still issued.

“This was part of the provincial initiative to target people who continue to use their cell phone while driving,” said RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.

Twenty-two people were ticketed for not wearing seat belts, one person was charged for having no driver’s licence, and nine people were ticketed for operating a defective motor vehicle.
