The North Okanagan-Shuswap School District is in the process of developing a long-term facilities plan.

The district is asking partner groups and residents to check out the proposed guiding principles on the district’s website at www.sd83.bc.ca.

“If they wish, they can add their thoughts and preferences for consideration by the board of education,” said Sterling Olson, secretary-treasurer.

Seven themes and strategies have been drafted in no particular order to provide a district-wide framework. They are:

Educational Programming;

Reconciliation of student enrolments and school capacities;

Facility renewal and facility reconfigurations;

Grade configuration and multiple student transitions;

Financial responsibility;

District support facilities/transportation of students;

Community relationships and partnerships.

Input on the guiding principles will be collected until Feb. 2. These guidelines will then be considered by the board and used to develop the long-term facilities plan.

“From this, consultation on any potential significant reorganization or permanent school closure will take place between March 11 and May 12,” said Olson.
