The North Okanagan-Shuswap School District is facing a shift in leadership.

Glenn Borthistle will step down as superintendent Aug. 31.

“It has been an honour to be a part of this district,” said Borthistle, who has been with the district for 23 years.

“As difficult as it is to consider leaving a district that I have been a part of for so long, I believe this to be the right time for the district and for me to be looking at other opportunities.”

This is just the latest evolution in leadership for the district as the provincial government dismissed the board of trustees last year and appointed Mike McKay as official trustee.

McKay says he’s talked to Borthistle about leadership options in line with district renewal.

“Glenn has been honourable throughout and has kept the district’s interests central to all discussions. He has had a positive impact on the district in his many roles and I wish him well as he takes on new challenges,” said McKay.

An announcement about a new superintendent is expected within the next few days and the incoming superintendent will begin their duties in the summer.

Borthistle said that by September, the district’s new strategic plan will be in place.

“This is the right time for new district leadership to be in place, to implement the strategic plan and to guide the district down its new path.”

He added that he will be fully involved with preparations for the year ahead until the transition is complete.

Borthistle is a former vice-principal and principal and he became superintendent in 2013.
