Get ready for some Christmas fun in downtown Vernon.

On Saturday, there is Shop Local Day.

“Shop Local Day is a downtown-wide customer appreciation event with exclusive deals and discounts offered at participating merchants and only available that day,” said Dudley Coulter, with the Downtown Vernon Association.

“Check items off your Christmas list with the bonus of free downtown-wide parking. More than 40 shops and boutiques are participating.”

The Hot Chocolate Challenge also takes place Saturday.

Between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., pick up your free passport card from any of the eight participating businesses as well as the DVA tent located in front of the National Bank, 3100 30th Ave.

“The community gets to judge, and the winner earns bragging rights,” said Coulter.

“This event is free but will be limited to 300 passports available on a first-come, first- served basis. Return your filled-out passport to the DVA tent before 2 p.m. to be part of the judging.”

The participating businesses are 34th Street Cafe, Bean Scene, Domenic’s Bistro, Teassential, The Cracked Pot, The Sprouted Fig, MMJ Total Healthcare and Vernon Teach and Learn.
