Driver climbs to help after going off 350-foot embankment

A vehicle went down an embankment off Westside Road Friday morning.

The driver of a pickup climbed 350 feet up an embankment after their vehicle went off Westside Road Friday morning.

The vehicle lost traction and slid down the embankment overlooking La Casa around 9 a.m.

"A single driver was able to climb back on to the road with chest and back injuries," said Jason Satterthwaite, North Westside fire chief.

"Dean Kalstrum from Mid Valley Auto Hauling aided to the driver until fire crews arrived."

North Westside Fire crews provided medical care and spinal immobilization until BC ambulance and police arrived.

The driver was transported to Vernon Jubilee Hospital.

Westside Road is closed in the 6800 block as the vehicle is recovered.

A collision has closed Westside Road in both directions.

Drive BC reports the incident is in the 6800 block, which is just south of La Casa Resort.
