Enderby residents are moving closer to higher taxes.

Council gave three readings Tuesday to the 2017 budget, which includes a two per cent tax hike.

”We’ve acted in the best interest of the community moving forward,” said Coun. Roxanne Davyduke of putting financial resources towards various projects and services.

The tax increase would translate into an additional $38 for a home assessed at $237,000.

While there is money to cover operations, much of the budget is being directed towards infrastructure.

“Salmon Arm Drive is the big project but it will be done over two years because of the scope,” said Mayor Greg McCune.

The 2017 budget includes $1 million for phase one of Salmon Arm Drive upgrades and $288,602 for the hillside combined sewer separation.

There was an opportunity for residents to provide feedback on the budget Tuesday but no one showed up.

“In such a small community, people who are concerned have already talked to us. We get input on a daily basis at the grocery store or if you’re getting the mail,” said McCune.

The 2017 budget will be adopted by council May 1.
