Enderby firefighters responded to a camper on fire on Waterside Road Sunday night.

A man was sent to hospital with extensive burns after a fire in Enderby Sunday night.

Firefighters received a report of a camper engulfed in flames on Waterside Road at 9:56 p.m.

The lone occupant of the camper sustained burns to his head, face, hands and back.

"He was burned pretty bad," said Kevin Alstad, Enderby fire chief.

"It was pretty bad. He was sleeping and had to pass through the fire to get out."

As of Monday morning, the man's condition was not known.

Firefighters are still investigating the cause of the blaze.

"There may have been a space heater inside and something may have fallen on it," said Alstad.

The camper, which was sitting on sawhorses between two sheds, was destroyed.

"The buildings were unscathed," said Alstad.
