Enderby politicians have hit a road block over proposed traffic changes.
City council met with businesses Tuesday to discuss plans for one-way traffic on Cliff Avenue.
“There is a lot of uneasiness about what a change will do to business,” said Mayor Howie Cyr.
“There are businesses with margins that are already slim and they are worried a change in traffic will further impact their bottom line.”
Based on the meeting, Cyr expects city council has no choice but to abandon the proposal, which would have encouraged more pedestrian activity.
“Given what we heard, I doubt we would further entertain a one-way,” he said.
The other issue that was discussed Wednesday was a proposed new brand to promote Enderby.
“People are wondering why we are rebranding the city and some believe the current brand services the community well,” said Cyr.
The proposed brand includes an aboriginal pictograph of a person holding two fish next to the Shuswap River.
The wording says, “Enderby and District: Where the Shuswap meets the Okanagan.”
The present brand is, “Enderby: Top of the Okanagan.”
Cyr believes there needs to be more discussion between the city and businesses about new branding.
“We need to do a better job of informing them as to why we need to do that,” said Cyr.
About 60 people crowded into council chambers, with many having to stand in the hall.
“The turnout tells me there is a lot of interest in the community,” said Cyr.
