The pedal is being put to the metal and that has Enderby officials seeing red.
City council voted Monday to write the RCMP and demand that speed enforcement be enhanced.
“It boils down to what’s important to us in our community,” said Mayor Howie Cyr, a retired police officer.
“If we have concerns, that should be the priority for them in our community.”
According to Cyr, there have been numerous incidents of motorists exceeding posted speed limits.
“On some streets, they roll right through,” he said.
“We are getting complaints from residents and we see it ourselves. If there is no possibility of being checked or ticketed, they just carry on.”
Cyr isn’t sure what current RCMP resources are in the community or what the response to council’s request will be, but he insists something needs to be done.
“We want them to start writing some tickets,” he said, adding that school speed zones will be back in effect soon.
