As the third week of the new school year winds down, the Vernon School District continues to update its enrolment numbers.
At Tuesday’s district board meeting, superintendent Bev Rundell said final numbers won’t be confirmed until the end of the month.
“The numbers are still pretty fluid, but we are down at both elementary and secondary schools,” she said. “We’re still down from our projected enrolment of 8,330.”
At this point, total enrolment for the district is 4,529 students in elementary school and 3,498 at the secondary level. The alternate programs have a total full-time equivalent enrolment of 101 students.
“And we believe we’ll have more in the alternate programs as the year progresses,” said Rundell.
The district must submit its final enrolment numbers to the Ministry of Education by Sept. 30. The ministry bases its funding to each district based on the number of students enrolled.
