Event showcases Lumby’s edge

Lumby businesses and community groups showcased in inaugural Discover Our Edge event at curling club Saturday

The public is being invited to discover some hidden gems in the Lumby area.

The inaugural Discover Our Edge business showcase runs at the Lumby Curling Club Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“We want to reintroduce people to businesses in our community,” said Stephanie Sexsmith, Lumby Chamber of Commerce manager.

“It’s time for people to know what makes us unique.”

The goal is to attract residents from Lumby and the surrounding rural area to the showcase, but also people from Greater Vernon and the entire North Okanagan.

“Some of our businesses have done a great job of being innovative and some people don’t think of that,” said Sexsmith of the need to increase awareness.

The event will feature 40 exhibitors, including some non-profit agencies like Bee Safe, the RCMP Safe Communities Unit, the North Okanagan Gleaners, the Lumby Public Market and the Lumby Lions.

“We want more awareness about what clubs are doing locally,” said Sexsmith.

Members of the 4-H club will be providing free babysitting and games.

“It’s a way for them to give back to the community,” said Sexsmith of 4-H.

A key part of the showcase will be the Taste of Lumby, with residents tasting samples from restaurants in the area.

“We will have everything from Triple Island Cheese to local catering,” said Sexsmith, adding residents will be able to enjoy a variety of culinary delights.

Guest ranches from the Monashee Mountains will also be on hand.

“If people are looking for a place to get away, this is a chance to have an adventure in your own town,” said Sexsmith.

As part of Discover Our Edge, there will be door prizes available.
