As a rule of thumb Teresa Johnson always says ‘yes’ to the Extra when she plays Lotto Max. That rule paid off to the tune of $500,000 when the Mara resident won the Extra in the April 1 draw.

“It was quite surreal when I found out,” said Johnson, who bought the ticket at Enderby’s Parkridge Pharmacy & Health Center. “I started yelling and almost dropped to my knees!”

Johnson says the win is one of the most significant moments of her life.

“Right behind marrying my husband, and the birth of my kids and grandkids,” laughed Johnson.

She plans to use some of the money for her retirement, and will start taking life a little easier.

“Now I can work for pleasure and spend more time with my family,” exclaimed Johnson.

The Okanagan appears to be a hot spot for winning tickets as Johnson is the latest in several local wins.

Vernon’s Robert Jaeger picked up $5 million on his April 9 Lotto 6/49.

Jaeger’s win came a day after the $50 million Lotto Max jackpot was won in Kelowna by June Bergh and a few weeks earlier, Kelowna resident Robert Goertzen won the $21.9 million Lotto 6/49 jackpot.
