Social media helped a Lavington dirt bike owner recover his stolen ride.

Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP received a report of a theft of a 2007 Yamaha dirt bike, valued at $4,200, from a locked shed in the Springfield Road area.

“Acting on information from the owner who believed the dirt bike was pictured on a Facebook page of a local person, the officers went to the residence and spoke to the property owner,” said RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.

The bike was located and it had been repainted to attempt to hide the identity of it.

“The owner got his bike back though with a pretty poor paint job I’m told,” said Molendyk.

The file is still under investigation to determine if charges will be laid.
