Red tape has stalled dealing with a moored boat in Coldstream.
A vessel near the Kalavista boat launch has been vacant for several months, and one individual believes the boat is now starting to sink into Kalamalka Lake.
It’s the feds who have the overall call on the matter.
“We’ve been dealing with this issue for quite awhile,” said Coldstream chief administrative officer Trevor Seibel on Thursday, June 8. “The challenge is one of jurisdictions. We have been in contact with the federal government and they’re trying to sort out which department has the authority to remove the boat.
“The process, however, has begun to bring about a resolution to the situation.”
Seibel said the district has talked to the owner of the boat.
There is, he said, a defined salvage process that the district must follow, and that the boat has been inspected for leaks and damage.
“It’s not an environmental issue at this point,” said Seibel.
