A fire had the potential to evolve into something far more serious.
On Monday at about 11:40 p.m., Vernon firefighters received a report of a blaze in the 6200 block of Scott Road.
“It looked to be a burning pile that had spread to some tires and a barn,” said Scott Hemstad, deputy fire chief.
“The crew extinguished the fire in short order.”
The owner of the property believed that a burning barrel had been fully extinguished, and the fire has been recorded as accidental.
“It’s important that people be conscientious about burning,” said Hemstad.
The fire caused about $10,000 in damages.
