Fire forces cancellation of Monday classes at Enderby school

A fire was reported at A.L. Fortune Secondary School broke out just after noon Friday

UPDATE APRIL 10 – North Okanagan-Shuswap School District officials reconfirm that classes will not take place Monday at A.L. Fortune Secondary in Enderby.

Restoration crews are on site after a fire Friday.

Classes are anticipated to resume Tuesday.


Classes will not be in session at an Enderby high school after a fire.

Just after noon Friday, a fire was reported at A,L. Fortune Secondary School.

The recent update is that students will not be in attendance on Monday while the ducts are being cleaned to ensure the safety of students and staff,” said principal Gene Doray.

“It looks promising for a Tuesday return to classes.

Students first noticed smoke and then a teacher found a fire and pulled the fire alarm Friday.

That forced all of the students to evacuate the school and classes came to an end for the rest of the day.

A sprinkler doused the blaze before Enderby firefighters arrived on scene.

The cause of the fire is believed to be suspicious and the RCMP are investigating.
