Fire roars through Spallumcheen home

Firefighters were called to the 1200 block of Round Lake Road at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Fire has caused significant damage to a Spallumcheen home.

Twenty-eight members of the Armstrong-Spallumcheen Fire Department were called to the 1200 block of Round Lake Road at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

"When we arrived, there was fire on the second floor of the structure and flames were coming out of the roof," said Ian Cummings, fire chief.

"We managed to contain the fire to the second floor but there is lots of water and smoke damage throughout. It was challenging to fight because the fire was in the ceiling."

The fire was discovered when the family living there returned home and smelled smoke. They have received assistance from emergency services.

At this point, a cause has not been determined.

"We don't feel it's suspicious," said Cummings.

Firefighters were on scene for about six hours.
