Fires keep crew busy

Two grass fires sparked within minutes of each in Armstrong

Firefighters were busy dousing two grass fires, sparked within eight minutes of each other, in Armstrong Wednesday afternoon.

While battling an approximately one-acre grass fire between the north and south Grandview road area, a second grass fire broke out approximately three kilometres away on Corkscrew Road.

“It was a lot of running around between them,” said Armstrong-Spallumcheen Fire Department chief Ian Cummings.

Despite windy conditions, both fires were contained, and did not threaten any structures.

Both of the fires broke out along the railway tracks and while the causes are undetermined at this time, they are not believed to be suspicious.
