A 29-year-old Oliver man is facing a number of criminal charges after refusing to pay his taxi cab fare in Lake Country.

Lake Country RCMP received a report of an unpaid taxi cab fare just before 9 a.m. Wednesday.

“The suspect was reportedly picked up in the Lake Country area, driven to a destination in Vernon and returned back to Lake Country where he fled the cab, refusing to pay for the sizable fare,” said RCMP spokesperson Const. Kris Clark.

The male suspect left both personal items and suspected stolen property behind in the taxi cab which was turned over to police to investigate.

The suspect male later attended the Lake Country RCMP Detachment – in another taxi cab – in possession of additional suspected stolen property, at which point he was taken into police custody without incident.

The man faces possible criminal charges of fraud, obstructing a peace officer and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

He was later released from police custody on a promise to appear in court on April 7.
