Flooding concern persists

In advance of potential rainfall over the next few days, the B.C. River Forecast Centre has issued a high streamflow advisory for the Okanagan.

That means river and creek levels are rising or are expected to rise rapidly, but no major flooding is anticipated. Minor flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

“Should conditions change notices will be issued through local media,” said Bruce Smith, with the Regional District of the Central Okanagan, which covers Lake Country and the North Westside.

If you notice flooding in your area, contact the Provincial Emergency Program at 1-800-663-3456.

Those facing an imminent flood threat may obtain sandbags from local fire halls throughout the Central Okanagan.
