Armstrong officials insist they aren’t ignoring the need to avoid future flooding.

On Monday, council received two residents upset with recent flooding in the Meighan Creek area.

“We’re working on them (concerns) but we’ve done nothing yet,” said Mayor Chris Pieper, adding that the city wants to meet with the provincial government about funding for remedial projects and permission to do the work.

“Getting meetings with the provincial government is a little difficult right now (because of the Liberal minority). Our MLA and MP are aware of the flooding but things need to settle down in Victoria.”

One of the letters came from Dan Romaniuk on Fletcher Avenue, who is upset with the condition of Meighan Creek.

“This is an open drainage ditch handling runoff waters. The debris and sediment that has collected in the

creek over the years is substantial,” he said.

“From our point of view, this waterway should be cleaned and dredged.”

A letter was also received from resident Margreet DenOudsten.

“How can any additional water ever get there when the vegetation has taken over the creek?” said DenOudsten, who was forced out of her home because of flooding in May.

“If you think it’s not so bad, I would gladly move into your house for the next months.”
