Parking tickets will help those in need in Vernon.

From Sunday to Dec. 10, payments for parking tickets issued in Vernon will be donated to organizations providing food programs.

"During Food for Fines, all recent or outstanding parking tickets that are not in active collections can be paid at city hall, online, in one of the drop boxes in the downtown core or by mail, as long as the money is received between Dec. 4 to 10," said Tanya Laing Gahr, communications officer.

"The equivalent dollar value of all money collected during this week will be donated to agencies to be determined by council at the Dec. 12 regular meeting."

During a typical week, about $3,000 to $4,000 is collected by the city for parking tickets.
