Former Lumby man sought by police

Vancouver police are warning the public about a convicted sex offender who is unlawfully at large and is currently wanted.

Michael Hans Bopfinger, 42, formerly of Lumby, was on statutory release and living in a Vancouver area halfway house.

On Friday, he failed to return by his curfew time and a Canada wide warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Bopfinger is described ‎as a Caucasian male, five-foot-nine and 300 pounds, with a shaved head, and blue eyes. He also has a tattoo on his left upper arm of tribal art and a Powery symbol on his right forearm. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt with a black logo, camouflage shorts, and black runners.

In 2011, Bopfinger was sentenced in Vernon Provincial Court to eight years of new jail time in connection with three assaults against Vernon sex trade workers in June and July of 2009.

Bopfinger, who was given credit for three years for time served after his arrest in July 2009, pleaded guilty to counts of aggravated sexual assault, unlawful confinement, sexual assault with a weapon, robbery and attempted sexual assault.
