Sunday’s Terry Fox Run won’t be Vernon’s last.
The national event, which gets underway at Coldstream Elementary at 9 a.m. Sunday, was previously in jeopardy locally as an organizer for next year was needed.
However, not one, but two people have stepped up to take on the event for the coming years.
“I actually had two people interested and they are going to be sharing the position which I think is awesome,” said current organizer Tania Mund, who is stepping down after Sunday’s event.
“They have a lot of previous volunteer and organizational experience and I know they will do a great job. Definitely more time to help take the run to the next level which is what it needs.”
As for this year’s event, Mund is hoping for a good turnout of supporters walking, running, wheeling, riding, walking their dogs, or pushing their baby strollers to outrun cancer.
“Everything seems to be shaping up great,” said Mund. “I’m anticipating about 400 participants if all goes well.”
The national school run day is Sept. 28 for most schools.
