A road failure has Vernon motorists pursuing alternate routes.
On Friday, the City of Vernon closed Okanagan Avenue from Longacre Drive to 6215 Okanagan Avenue because a portion of the road has slumped because of frost heaves.
“With mild weather, there could be more frost heaves and one-way traffic is not ideal,” said Shirley Koenig, operation services manager.
Single-lane, alternating traffic was in place once the road failure was discovered Wednesday.
It’s not known when that section of Okanagan Avenue will reopen.
“We want to make sure the travelling public is safe,” said Koenig.
It also hasn’t been determined what repairs may be needed to the road.
“We are still working with our geotechnical engineer,” said Koenig.
