Funding proceeds for Enderby revitalization

Only 195 residents opposed borrowing $467,000 over 20 years for the Cliff Avenue project

Not enough voters stood in the way of revitalizing downtown Enderby.

Only 195 residents signed a petition against the city borrowing $467,000 over 20 years for the Cliff Avenue project. A total of 238 names, or 10 per cent of voters, were needed to stop borrowing.

“I am pleased that the borrowing may proceed as planned,” said Mayor Greg McCune.

“As a council, we selected a funding strategy for Cliff Avenue that balanced many priorities, including keeping taxes as low as possible.  I am excited that we are able to do a project of this magnitude while keeping our overall tax increase to 0.69 per cent for 2016, which is among the lowest increases in the province.”

The total project cost is $1.8 million.
