North Okanagan residents are urged to get loud about mental health.

The 66th Annual CMHA Mental Health Week runs from Monday to Sunday.

“This popular awareness week offers millions of Canadians practical ways to maintain and improve their mental health,” said Cassandra Schwarz, with CMHA in Vernon.

“We are asking our community to get loud for mental health. To get loud means speaking out against the discrimination and stigma directed at people with mental illnesses. It means taking action and using your voice to raise awareness and build support for those around yourself.”

Schwarz says residents can talk openly about mental health with their family and friends, raise the issue with provincial election candidates or donate to CMHA.

Residents can also attend two events during CMHA Mental Health Week:

Tuesday — Kristen Read, of Paradigm Naturopathic Clinic, is holding a fundraiser at her clinic from 9 a.m. to noon. You can receive a $90 acupuncture treatment for a minimum $20 donation, with all proceeds to support the workplace mental health campaign. Call 778-475-3822 to book a session.

Wednesday — There will be a free movie night hosted by CMHA and the Mental Illness Family Support Centre from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at CMHA, 3100 28th Ave. Xavier Amador’s video brings to life his book, I am not sick, I don’t need help.
