Vernon residents are being urged to report any wildfires.

On Thursday at 6:24 p.m., firefighters received a report of a grass fire in the 6800 block of Cameo Drive.

“It was noticed by some neighbours at the extremely early stage and it was pretty much extinguished by those people. We added some water to it,” said Scott Hemstad, deputy fire chief.

The fire was about 10-feet-by-10-feet in size.

“It was great the neighbours were able to catch it early before it became a problem. Once they grow in size, they are more difficult to contain.”

A cause for the fire has not been determined.
