Greater Vernon heading to referendum

An April 6 vote will be held to determine the future of a track and multi-use field

Greater Vernon residents will have their say on a proposed sports complex.

The Greater Vernon Advisory Committee agreed Thursday to hold an April 6 referendum to borrow $8.5 million for a track and multi-use field at Okanagan College.

“The facility warrants support,” said director Bob Fleming.

However, others admit there will be public opposition.

“It’s always a tough sell when it comes to money,” said director Jim Garlick.

The money would be borrowed over 20 years and the average household cost would be between $17 and $20 a year.
