Greater Vernon Water makes switch due to turbidity

Increased flows and flooding due to heavy rainfall has caused turbidity to increase at the Kalamalka Lake water intake.

From the Regional District of North Okanagan:

Increased flows and flooding due to heavy rainfall has caused turbidity to increase at the

Kalamalka Lake water intake. Accordingly, Greater Vernon Water has switched customers

usually served by the Mission Hill WaterTreatment Plant to water supplied by the Duteau Creek

Water Treatment Plant.

Weather reports indicate a reduction in rainfall on Sunday.

Staff will be continually monitoring turbidity at the Kalamalka Lake intake, and the Mission Hill

Water Treatment Plant will be put back on line when the turbidity returns to acceptable conditions.

To reduce excessive demands on the water system Greater Vernon Water requests that

customers please limit outdoor water use where possible.
