Lumby RCMP executed two search warrants for drugs in the 2000 block of Mountainview Avenue on the evening of June 23.
One of the homes was the subject of a previous drug search in 2011.
“The entire basement was again devoted to growing marijuana and some 250 mature plants were seized,” said Lumby RCMP Cpl. Henry Proce.
The man and woman residing in the house were arrested and are facing charges.
Police are also investigating the possibility that water from the village was allegedly being stolen at the home.
The Ministry of Children and Family Development was called as a child was living in the home.
Some 28 marijuana plants were seized in the second residence.
Both homes have been posted under the village’s bylaw as uninhabitable and will need to be brought back up to the building code prior to being re-occupied.
n Over the past few weeks, Lumby RCMP have seen a number of ATVs stolen in the area.
The latest was on June 8 when two new Polaris Razors were stolen out of a garage on Birch Road.
Proce said the thefts are “organized and well-planned,” and that a team of thieves appear to be involved.
“They appear to case the homes carefully during the day and commit the thefts (usually at night) shortly thereafter,” he said. “Owners of ATVs should be especially vigilant and ensure their machines are out of sight and securely locked.
“This information is the same for owners in both rural and urban areas of Lumby.”
Anybody with any information on the thefts is asked to call the Lumby RCMP at 250-547-2151, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
