One Hundred Men Who Give A Damn meets June 15.

Vernon men are being brought together to help the community.

The newly formed One Hundred Men Who Give A Damn will meet Wednesday, June 15 to establish a process for supporting charitable organizations.

“I wanted to do something for years, to give back,” said Andrew Thompson, a local businessman who is organizing the group.

“But most organizations have a time commitment and I have a busy life.”

The focus of One Hundred Men is to bring together like-minded men who donate $100 each to a charity selected by the group.

“It’s a quarterly meeting for an hour and the goal is a sizable injection of funds into the community,” said Thompson.

There are currently 350 chapters of One Hundred Men Who Give A Damn worldwide and a women’s only group in Vernon has been providing advice to the new men’s group.

“The interest is growing daily,” said Thompson, adding that about 68 men so far have committed to attend the inaugural meeting.

“There’s a big impact and low time commitment. You are in and out and you pay your dues.”

Three charities will make presentations at the June 15 meeting and then the members will vote on who receives this quarter’s donation.

Donors will receive a tax receipt from the selected charity.

Because a new charity will participate every quarter, Thompson is confident there will be broad-based community benefit.

“It’s going to grow into something fantastic,” he said.

The meeting starts with a cash bar at Marten Brewing Bar and Grill at 6 p.m., with the discussion at 7 p.m.
