Hit and run investigated

On Dec. 3, officials responded to a report of an accident at 39th Avenue and Alexis Park Drive.

A two-vehicle accident in Vernon involving a stolen Jeep, a missing driver and a seriously injured local woman remains under RCMP investigation.

Shortly after 5:30 p.m. Dec. 3, police and emergency personnel responded to a report of an accident at 39th Avenue and Alexis Park Drive.

Upon arrival, officers found a blue Jeep and a Hyundai had been involved in a crash.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 44-year-old Vernon area woman, was still in her car. She was taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital, then transferred to Vancouver General Hospital with serious injuries including a spinal fracture and numerous other broken bones.

The driver of the Jeep fled from the scene and has not been found.

The Jeep was discovered to have been reported stolen from the Vernon area.

“We did receive a number of calls and information, and we’re following up with some of the leads,” said Vernon RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.

“We are continuing to follow up on any tips about the driver and vehicle involved in the crash.”
