Hit-and-run suspect still sought

On Jan. 8, a pedestrian was struck at Kalamalka and Husband roads

RCMP continue to seek the motorist involved in an accident where a pedestrian was injured in Coldstream last week.

Just before 9 p.m. Jan. 8, officers responded to a report of a 69-year-old pedestrian being struck by a red SUV north of the Husband and Kalamalka roads intersection.

A witness had a video because of a dashboard camera which showed a woman in the SUV getting out to check on the pedestrian.

“The woman told people at the scene the pedestrian was fine, then she got back into her vehicle and left,” said RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk, adding police are still hoping to talk to her about the incident.

“As of today (Monday), we have not located her.”

The victim was lying unconscious on the side of the road. He has since been released from hospital after suffering a concussion and bruising.

At the time, the pedestrian was wearing all black and was walking northbound on Kalamalka Road, the same direction of travel as the SUV.

The woman in the SUV is described as a Caucasian with brown hair tied back, five-foot-two to five-foot-four tall and wearing a dark jacket and Capri-style pants.

The driver is asked to call the Vernon RCMP detachment at 250-545-7171.
