Pat Duke Memorial Arena will be the site of a Kraft Hockeyville community celebration Saturday.

The wait will soon be over in Lumby.

The community will find out Saturday if it’s captured the Kraft Hockeyville title and a pre-season NHL game.

“This has all of us pulling together in a positive direction. This goes way beyond Lumby,” said Angie Clowry, a local campaign organizer.

A TV crew will be in town for the announcement and that means a community celebration is taking place at Oval Park and Pat Duke Memorial Arena from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“We want to get as many people out as possible,” said Clowry

Festivities will include a camp-out, live entertainment, food vendors, ball hockey and activities for all ages.

“The Monashee Arts Council will be doing crafts,” said Clowry.

There will also be a storefront scavenger hunt. Pick up your map at the Lumby Chamber of Commerce booth in Oval Park after 11 a.m. Saturday for your chance to win tickets to a Vancouver Canucks home game.

Country singer Ben Klick will perform at 1:30 p.m.

“He shouldn’t be missed,” said Clowry.

Already scheduled community events are also tying into the Hockeyville celebration, including a multi-home garage sale and an ALS fundraiser at the Royal Canadian Legion.

It’s expected the winner of the Kraft Hockeyville title will be announced at about 3:55 p.m. and residents are asked to be in the arena by 3 p.m.

“Wear your jerseys or green and gold, which are Lumby’s colours,” said Clowry.

By being one of two finalists, along with Saint-Isidore, Que., Lumby will receive $100,000 in upgrades to Pat Duke Memorial Arena.

The White Valley Parks, Recreation and Culture Advisory Committee has agreed to provide up to $5,000 for Saturday’s celebration.
