The long weekend was quite literally a scorcher in the North Okanagan.
Several small fires were sparked in the BX, Lumby and Oyama areas.
Firefighters in Oyama battled a blaze Sunday, which was under control by Monday.
In Lumby a grass fire broke out on Mabel Lake Road Sunday surrounding a resident’s driveway but was quickly contained.
A grass fire was also sparked Sunday in the BX on L&A Road.
“I thought it was suspicious at first,” said BX-Swan Lake chief Bill Wacey. “But it ended up being power lines sparking and dropping sparks down onto the ground.”
Crews were able to quickly contain the 20 by 30 foot blaze, but Wacey warns residents that fire season is in full effect.
“We’re drying out really really fast and we’re in for this dry warm spell for a while.”
Environment Canada is forecasting a high of 33 today for Vernon, which will climb to 35 Thursday, 37 Friday, 36 Saturday and 35 Sunday.
With no precipitation in the forecast, residents are urged to take extreme caution.
