The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation reports there were 16 housing starts in Vernon in September, a seven per cent increase from 15 starts during the same month in 2010.

The 16 starts break down into 10 single-detached units (a 23 per cent decrease from last year) and six multiple units (a 200 per cent increase).

Year-to-date, there have been 120 housing starts in Vernon, a 35 per cent decrease from 185 units compared to the same nine-month period in 2010.

Of the 120 units, there have been 93 single-detached units (a 40 per cent decrease from last year) and 27 multiple units (a 13 per cent decrease).
