A expansion is proposed for Memorial Terrace in Enderby.

A major expansion to seniors housing in Enderby is moving ahead.

On Monday, city council adopted a rezoning bylaw for 1507 George St. from highway and tourist commercial to residential single-family.

This will allow the Enderby Seniors Housing Society to proceed with a 33-unit expansion to Memorial Terrace.

“It’s pretty exciting for the community,” said Mayor Greg McCune of the supportive housing for seniors.

Work is anticipated to start in the spring.

B.C. Housing announced funding for the additional housing units late last year.

McCune says he’s impressed with the work done by the Enderby Seniors Housing Society.

“They saw the need years ago and they haven’t let up,” he said.

The new units will be added to the existing 15-unit building.
