Impaired drivers keep RCMP busy

Some North Okanagan residents are ignoring the message about not driving drunk.

Last week, RCMP officers pulled over 11 motorists for driving while under the influence of alcohol.

“There are more impaireds during the summer than during Christmas and New Year’s,” said Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesperson.

Molendyk believes there may be a few factors for the increase in activity.

“They’re out partying or at barbecues and people need to be aware that the rules apply — think before you drink,” he said. “More people are letting their guard down and not paying attention.”

However, Molendyk says public safety continues to be a priority for the detachment and officers will remain vigilant in identifying impaired drivers.
