Incumbent councillors retain seats in Armstrong

Shirley Fowler, Paul Britton and Ron (Sully) O’Sullivan will be joined by three newcomers

Armstrong’s incumbent councillors have retained their seats.

Shirley Fowler, Paul Britton and Ron (Sully) O’Sullivan will be joined by newcomers Steve Drapala, Linda Werner, and Helen Jackson on council following Saturday’s municipal vote.

Fowler topped the polls with 713 votes with Britton finishing second at 679. O’Sullivan was fourth, capturing 541 votes, 50 fewer than Drapala, who was third overall.

Werner, a council rookie, was fifth with 450 votes while Jackson, a former councillor in Ontario, placed sixth with 425 votes, 22 more than Lance McGregor.

Rounding out the candidates were Kerry Bennington (346), Dave McKechnie (336), Gil Melin (324) and Robert Thibeau (204).

There were three open seats available as Ryan Nitchie left in the summer to pursue employment opportunities in Salmon Arm, John Trainor decided not to seek re-election and Kelly Rowe stepped aside to successfully pursue one of two Armstrong-Spallumcheen seats on the North Okanagan Shuswap School District’s board of trustees.

Mayor Chris Pieper was returned by acclamation.
