Kin Race Track discussion delayed

Heavy snow cancelled Saturday's Okanagan Equestrian Society annual general meeting

Mother Nature has delayed discussions about the future of Kin Race Track.

Members of the Okanagan Equestrian Society were supposed to debate proposals to end the legal dispute with the City of Vernon but the annual general meeting was cancelled because of heavy snowfall.

“There were questionable roads and we didn’t want to chance it,” said Ed Woolley, society spokesperson.

The meeting was adjourned until Jan. 31. Most of our directors live out of town and didn’t want to chance things on the highway. Similarly, a lot of our members live out of town and we expected that they would be deterred as well.”

The society has been pursuing legal action against the city and the Regional District of North Okanagan to use the property since a 2010 eviction.

Some city and regional district officials have stated they would like the site designated for other recreational activities.
