An 18-year-old Coldstream man is facing weapons-related charges following an incident outside a Vernon secondary school Monday.
The man was walking past W.L. Seaton Scondary at around 3:30 p.m. when he recognized a student he knew, and called him over to show off a knife he had.
A teacher noticed the man showing the knife to the student and alerted administration, who attempted to talk to the individual.
That’s when the man took off.
“Officers did patrols of the neighbourhood. He was arrested without incident,” said Vernon RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.
Police seized a knife from the individual.
The man, who is not a student at the school nor is he known to administration, was taken into custody and was expected to face charges of possession of a prohibited weapon, carrying a concealed weapon and breach of community supervision.
It was also discovered that there were two outstanding warrants issued for the man’s arrest.
He was expected to appear in Vernon Provincial Court Tuesday.
