A Vernon couple has finally claimed their prize.
Margaret and Albert Greening are the $5.8 million winners of the April Fool’s Day Lotto 6/49 draw.
Margaret, 65, bought the ticket at the 7-Eleven on 39nd Avenue, and dragged Albert out from the bathroom to see the winning numbers match up last Wednesday.
The couple, originally from Newfoundland, have four children, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
“Go check the car lot, you’ll probably see them all there,” laughs Albert, a former school bus driver and truck driver.
Along with sharing their winnings with their children, the retired couple will be ensuring Margaret’s father is well cared for and just treasuring their winnings.
“Right now we’re just thinking about relaxing and enjoying it,” said Margaret, a former cashier at the Superstore and Wal-Mart.
Margaret plays her own numbers, and this isn’t the first time they’ve proven lucky for her. She had five numbers once before, earning her $3,000. And even Tuesday morning, while at the B.C. Lottery Corporation, she checked some tickets she had in purse and was a winner again.
“I had $25 and two free tickets.
“Maybe I should play again.”
