Nearly $6 million to help with Lake Country water project

A joint funding announcement included nearly $6 million for Lake Country.

Lake Country has secured a nearly $6 million dollar water grant to go towards its Eldorado water facility.

The announcement was made Friday in Kelowna and comes to Lake Country from the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund which is is providing approximately $310 million to 144 projects throughout the province.

Through this funding, Lake Country is receiving $5,810,000 for Eldorado Treated Water Reservoir & Glenmore Booster Station.

“Vital to any community is its water supply,” said Lake Country Mayor James Baker. “We greatly appreciate the support from the senior levels of government on this project, which is another step on the path to ensuring our community has a safe, reliable drinking water supply for years to come, while protecting the environment and building the local economy.”

The federal and provincial government as well as the muncipalities of Lake Country, Kelowna and West Kelowna made a joint announcement under the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund.

A press release states the fund enables crucial investments in local government infrastructure, specifically supporting long-term benefits in rehabilitating drinking water, wastewater and stormwater systems, as well as planning and designing future facilities and upgrades to existing wastewater systems.
