Lake Country RCMP have arrested an alleged thief in connection with an early morning incident Tuesday.

Lake Country RCMP have arrested a man who faces potential charges after he was discovered in possession of alleged stolen property.

On Tuesday at 3:05 a.m., the Lake Country RCMP received a report of a man knocking on the door of a residence in the 4500 block of Northview Road.

“When the resident of the home answered their door, the man simply stated “wrong house” and departed on foot,” said RCMP Const. Jesse O’Donaghey.

“An officer attended the area, located the man and during his interaction detained the man for investigation of theft.”

The man was found to be in possession of a garage door opener which the investigator linked to a nearby residence. Further investigation revealed that the garage door opener was taken from inside a vehicle parked at that residence.

The suspect, a 22-year-old Lake Country man, faces potential charges of possession of property obtained by crime and trespass at night.

He is expected to appear in court on Oct. 20.

“The RCMP continue to encourage the public to report suspicious persons and activities in their neighbourhood to police,” said O’Donaghey.

“It was thanks to the quick actions of this Lake Country resident calling police that led to this alleged thief’s arrest.”
