Lake County advance polls surpass civic election turnout

General referendum day is Saturday at George Elliot Secondary School from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

With the last of the advance polls for the Lake Country rail corridor referendum now closed, 2,853 electors have cast their votes.

More than 30 per cent of eligible voters have participated so far, including 773 voters during the final advance poll Tuesday.

“In the advance polls alone, we have beat the 2014 general election turnout and hope to see even more people at the polls on Saturday,” said Reyna Seabrook, chief election officer.

“The election officials have done a fantastic job in expediting people through the voting process and we are well-prepared for a large turnout Saturday so wait times are kept to an absolute minimum.”

General referendum day is Saturday at George Elliot Secondary School from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Residents are being asked to borrow $2.6 million to purchase the rail corridor within the municipality.
