A contentious intersection in Spallumcheen has a new addition.
A flashing amber light has been installed, and is now in operation, at the entrance to McLeod subdivison at McLeod Road and Highway 97A.
“Installing this light is taking a first and valuable step towards improving that intersection,” said Spallumcheen Mayor Will Hansma.
The intersection has long been an issue for residents of the subdivision.
Many have called for a traffic light to be installed there as the intersection has had its share of accidents, including at least one fatality.
A number of residents have also expressed concern for safety when trying to make a left-hand turn onto Highway 97A, or waiting to make a left turn into the subdivision off the highway.
Ministry of Transportation officials will be on hand Thursday as the light is officially opened at a public ceremony.
The event will take place Thursday at 11 a.m. at the intersection, and the public is invited to attend.
